ATTENTION: in progress!

At the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium in Buchholz, a rugby company existed for several years in the 1990s, founded by the French teacher Denis Marcouly.

Enthusiastic about this originally English sport, in the mid-90s some students did everything necessary to continue playing rugby after school.

In September 1998, for example, the rugby division of TSV Buchholz 08 was founded as the first step. In co-operation with teams from Linau, Geesthacht and Rostock the federation league Schleswig-Holstein „RVLSH“ developed at the same time. In the summer of 1999, the Verbandsliga season was declared already after the first round ended. After a 90: 0 home win against the Linauer Löwen, a 40:25 away win at VfL Geesthacht Harlekins and a 53:33 win in Rostock at the Dierkower Elche, the team of TSV Buchholz 08 Wombats may call first champion of the Verbandsliga Schleswig-Holstein ,

Already in the 1999/2000 season, two more teams have set up, the second team of the Bundesliga second division HRC from Hamburg and the SG Uni / Adler Kiel. Furthermore, the ‚Linauer Löwen‘ formed a syndicate with the club of Exiles RFC Hamburg.
With the beginning of the season 2002/2003 the Verbandsliga was integrated into the DRV and classified as a regional league. With a changing number of now 8 teams was fighting for promotion to the second Bundesliga!

Parallel to the season games regular cup rounds were held early, so that was provided for a year-round game operation.
In August each year, the ‚Wombats‘ took part in the Skandinavian Open 7-A-Side tournament in Copenhagen. In this tournament around the Scandinavian championship mainly Scandinavian, but also German and international teams play. Among the starting teams are also names like Rosslyn Park London, one of the top clubs in the English amateur rugby, Fidji United, a selection of European-based players from the country of the 7-rugby world champion Fidji, as well as the national teams of Denmark , Norway and Sweden. Further regular tournaments are the Schietwetter Cup in Kiel as part of Kieler Woche and the Exiles 7s in Hamburg in May.

Our men’s team consists of players over 18 years. The youth are made up of 12- to 17-year-olds. The Wombats were early on a regular basis several youth players for the Hamburg national team. The studying players take part in the German University Championships on behalf of the University of Hamburg every year and since 2001 have several times reached the third place out of more than 20 participating teams! In the summer of 2006 succeeded for the first time the victory for the German championship of the university teams. Thus, the team was qualified for the European Championships the following year.

Towards the end of 2002, the Wombats lost their sports ground in Buchholz due to construction measures for the neighboring schools. In the transition phase, therefore, began to train on an old place at the campsite in Jesteburg. After failed attempts to find a new place (eg in Marxen) and due to lack of commitment on the part of TSV Buchholz in the spring of 2003 the step dared to ask VfL Jesteburg for accession. After all, we have been a member of VfL since June 2003.

Through the connection to the school team of the Albert Einstein High School was the junior players for the Wombats long secured.
This offspring is important because the DRV attaches great importance to junior teams.

to be further detailed and modified …

We wait for the further developments in peace and enjoy in the meantime the rugby sport!
